Have you ever noticed that person that when there’s a free meal, they show up and gorge themselves? Like when the local seed corn dealer has a pork chop lunch for his costumers and this person, who has never bought any seed, shows up and pounds down 7 pork chops!! Well, in the early days of the church, there were groups who considered themselves elite, who would gorge themselves with all the bread and wine during the communion celebration and those outside the group wouldn’t get to participate!! In 1 Corinthians 11, Paul writes to them and calls them out. When taking the bread and wine, which symbolizes the broken body and shed blood of Christ, it shouldn’t be done in a sinful manner. It should be done in a reverent manner in order to bring glory to Christ. In verses 34&35 he says, so then my brothers and sisters, when you gather to eat, you should all eat together. (No special groups) Anyone who is hungry should eat something at home so that when you meet together it may not result in judgement. Taking communion is not a time to pig out. It’s a time of sober reflection. It’s a time of celebration. What Jesus did for us was beyond amazing. He didn’t have to. He did it out of his great storehouse of love for us!! It’s not often that we actually do a meal for communion these days but it is possible to do communion with the wrong attitude of heart. Let’s honor God when we do it and do it for the reason God commanded us to. To remember!! Thank you Father for your Son. For all he has done for us!
Love you my friends. Enjoy your day!!
