There’s an old saying “I feel like I’m taking one step forward and two steps backwards”. Have you ever felt like that? Yeah me too. All areas of life can give you those two step backwards feelings. In our journey towards spiritual maturity in Christ we have those days. Like when you battle against a sin in your life and think you have it conquered then you slip up. Two steps backwards!! Paul, talking to the Philippians in Philippians 3, says of himself that in his effort to become more Christlike he did not consider himself as having attained it yet but forgetting what is behind he presses on. In verse 16 it’s says to live up to what we have already attained.
We are going to have occasional slips in our lives that make us feel horrible. Like we’ve went right back to where we started. But there’s a difference between a one time incident and falling back to a habit of continual sin. Listen, our sin is forgiven. We must press on, like Paul, forgetting what is behind us. When we slip, we must not allow it to get a foothold but rather just keep pushing forward knowing that we live in the love and forgiveness of a kind and patient Savior! This is our road to maturity. It’s not always a smooth road but one well worth traveling!! Thank you Father for being a God of second chances. Help us to keep pressing on!!
Fight the good fight my fellow warriors!!
