There are many people around the world who live under the rule of a harsh master. Here in America we live under an easy master. We are pretty much free as long as we obey the law. We all have a master besides a government or dictator though that truly rules over us. It’s our desire. It’s where our heart is. What consumes our thoughts. It could be anything. Money, things, family even. It could even be religion. Whatever consumes the majority of our thoughts and time is our desire and that desire is our master. Have you ever thought about that? Jesus was teaching a group of people from a mountain and he was talking about not storing up treasures here on earth but storing up treasures in heaven. He tells them not to worry about their needs here because he would provide. But his last statement on this matter is what hit home to me. Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. The word money here could be replaced with anything you desire more than God!! Let’s say for example you love food. We all like food but I mean that’s all you think about. Your whole life is spent persuing food. You spend everything you have, your time and money, on storing up food. Food then is your master. Food is your god. When we ask Jesus into our lives he then becomes our master. He should be the desire of our hearts. There’s nothing wrong with desiring food or money or family or anything else. We just need to remember that we cannot let any of those things become our master. Jesus, thank you for being a loving and forgiving master! Thank you for giving us all we need!!
Have a joy filled day!
