Life is in an uproar. There’s no end of things to be angry about if we so choose to be angry. From covid policies to American soldiers being killed. Mandates of all kinds. Freedom being hacked away in big chunks now instead of small slivers. It shouldn’t be a surprise. We were told. In 2 Timothy 3 Paul writes to his young friend Timothy and also to us that there will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self control, brutal, not lovers of good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God-having a form of godliness but denying its power.
Sound familiar? So as not to be uninformed I listen to the news. Most days I turn it off angry at what I hear. Or sad and disappointed. Sometimes I just need a break from it. If I don’t my attitude gets bad. But there is good news among all the bad. You won’t hear it on mainstream media. Sadly you may not even hear it at church, although you should. You can find it in the Bible. John 16:33 Jesus says I have told you these things so that in me you will find peace. In this world you WILL have trouble. But take heart!! I have overcome the world. Notice he didn’t say I will overcome. He said I have overcome. Yes we will see terrible things happen in this world. Yes some of them will happen to us. But an end is coming to the bad in this world. For those who trust and believe in Jesus to save them, and forgive them of their sins, there will be great days ahead, void of troubles , and full of joy. In this, in Jesus, we find our peace. Are the troubles of the day overwhelming you? Spend more time in God’s word and less time in the news!! Dear Father in Heaven, teach us to trust in you and not ourselves to find peace. Keep us from being discouraged in these troubled times where sickness and death and war are constantly in front of us. Help us to shine your light in this dark world by loving those around us!
Love someone today my friends that you haven’t loved before.
