Less me. More we

My Dad used to tell me stories about when he grew up. With no television or computers or cell phones to entertain them they did this weird thing. They would go visit neighbors!! And sometimes the neighbors would come over to visit you! What? Even when I was a kid it was a bit like that. I miss that. Another thing was that all the neighbors would help each other with their work and at noon they would share a meal together. Often times the ladies would bring food out to the field. Hospitality. A lost art that needs to be rekindled. We have become a society of individuals. Little islands that keep to ourselves. Loneliness is so common and all kinds of research shows serious mental problems stemming from it. We were not created to be islands. We were created to be together! We were created to love others. Romans 12:9-13 love must be sincere. Hate what is evil;cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
The last to words to me should be in all caps! PRACTICE HOSPITALITY What would happen in our world if the believers did such a simple thing as inviting some folks over for coffee or a meal?What conversations could take place? It’s hard to live a Christlike life by yourself. We need each other! We need to talk about our sins and pray for each other. We need to study the Bible together. Sometimes we just need to laugh together and have meaningless chatter to give us a break from life. But what we don’t need is more me! To much me can be harmful! We need more us! Lord I don’t know how we have become so individualistic. We need your help to break through this weird barrier that separates us from being together! Teach us to be good hosts in our homes!! Teach us to be devoted to loving each other!
