Some believe to live outside the law is to be truly free. But is it? If I were to steal or rape or commit violent acts without regard for the law it is true that I’m doing what I want but wouldn’t I always be looking over my shoulder wondering where the police are? Is that really freedom? Living in sin outside the grace of God is no different. Yes we do what we want but is it really freedom? Romans 6:20-23 When you were slaves to sin you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things lead to death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefits you reap leads to holiness, and the result leads to eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our a lord!
So we can either be slave to sin that gives us a false idea if freedom that leads to death eternal apart from God or anything good, or we can choose to be slaves to God which actually sets us free and leads ultimately to eternal life in the very presence of God! I remember when I used to smoke. I couldn’t go anywhere without my cigarettes. I had to have them. I thought I was free because I was doing what I wanted. But the truth is I was bound to them. Those cigarettes were my master and were killing me little by little! Don’t be tricked by the illusion of sin! Only God, through his Son, can set you free! Thank you for the reminder Lord that being slave to you is the only true freedom!!
Be the blessing in someone’s life today. It will bless you too!
