I wonder how many times in the span of one day we use the words I, me, or my? I’m sure it’s a lot. I know I do. We are all consumed with ourselves and most of us don’t even know it. Mom used to tell me that the order of importance in our lives should be Jesus, others, then you. Notice you is last. I wish I could say that I’ve lived by this rule but most days I haven’t. It wasn’t just my Moms theory. Paul wrote about it. Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interest of others.
You might say you can see in this reading that it talks about others but where’s the Jesus. In the next few verses it describes how Jesus, being God, came here and suffered for us and not with himself in mind. He was a servant to us by taking our deserved punishment onto himself!! Would we do that?? He is our great example of selfless behavior. Maybe what we need in our lives is a lot less me and more thee! Lord help us to follow you example by serving others more than we serve ourselves!!
