I have come to realize that I can butcher the English language as good as anyone. That in itself is bad enough but there’s something that I do that is worser(my wife just cringed). There are certain words that are intended to be for God. Like awesome. And holy. Now I know what they mean as a description of our Lord. And because he is above all I should only use these words when I’m talking about him. But instead I say things like “that pie was awesome!”. Or “holy cow did you see that! “. So often we give little to no thought about the words we chose or what they mean. I know that when I do that it’s just me not being mindful or alert to what I am saying. 1 Peter 1:13-16 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace that is to be brought to you when Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you were living in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, be holy in all you do; for it is written: be holy because I am holy.
It’s safe to say that all humans have room for improvement and among humans I have the most room! We should all be mindful of our words but especially those of us who claim to serve Christ. After all, he deserves it. He is truly awesome! He is truly holy! Thank you Lord for your servant Peter, who wrote down these words to remind us. I know that he too struggled but you helped him grow to maturity and I’m asking that you will help us grow mature as well!
