I had a friend tell me one time that the only thing in life we can count on is change. We can be rolling along in life and things are going pretty good and out of nowhere life throws you a curve. A thing that changes your life. Maybe for a moment. Like the flu or covid or a broken bone or something. Maybe a financial setback. Or. It may change your life forever. Like a friend or family member passing. Either way, change is uncomfortable. I think we all like a change of scenery but we like to come home. That comfort of the familiar. But it’s not always there because nothing in our physical world is a guarantee. So what can we truly count on that never changes? What is that place of comfort we can always return to? Psalm 100:4-5 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
If we woke up tomorrow and our house was taken away (been there due to house fire) or we had no food in the cabinets, or our bank account was empty or our loved one died or you fill in the blank of what awful thing could happen to change your life, we still can be thankful. That’s right! I said we can be thankful. Why? Because the Lord and his love endures. It didn’t say it endured. Past tense. It says it endures. It continues. Through all generations. Yes even ours! It’s that familiar place, only this one can’t burn or spoil or rot or die. If we had absolutely nothing in this world but that, we still have a reason to be thankful. In fact, that is the reason to be thankful. Without God, we would have never experienced the good things in this life that we enjoy! This thanksgiving, I think I just want to be thankful for God. For his son Jesus. Just because they are who they are. Lord, so often we take for granted that the good things in this life will always be there. But even our own life can end in a moment. All we truly have in this life that lasts is you! Thank you for being you!!!
I just want to say that I hope you all have a good thanksgiving. Maybe the holidays are not a good time for some of you. I get it. But remember the Lord. He is faithful. He is here. And always will be!! Much love!!
