Are you good?

If someone were to ask you if you were a good person, how would you respond? For years, I lived my life like anyone else would. I got up in the morning and went about my day. If you would have asked me then if I was a good man I most certainly would have answered yes! I would have said something like, I work hard and pay my bills and take care of my family! Yes I’m a good man! Peter most likely would have said the same thing. He was a fisherman by trade and he worked hard every day. But one day something happened that changed his life forever. A man named Jesus borrowed his boat. He then took them out on the water to fish and gave them a catch of a lifetime. It was a miracle catch. Listen to how Peter responded. Luke 5:8 When Simon Peter saw this he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “ go away from me Lord for I am a sinful man. “.
Did you notice that Peter became aware of how sinful he was in the presence of Jesus? Why? Jesus is holy. He is the light. Light exposes darkness. Holiness exposes sin. It’s no wonder people reject Jesus. No person wants to see themselves as sinful or bad. I know I didn’t. But Jesus came to Peter. He wanted to change Peters life for the better. And he did. He has changed my life too. Yes, I had to face the ugly fact that I am a sinful man. I became very aware of it. I still am. But Jesus has forgiven me. He comes to us because he loves us. I think that when we are most aware of a sin in our life we can be encouraged. Why? Because that’s when we know Jesus is near. He hasn’t left us. He is active and working in our lives. When we sin, we may push him away. Like Peter, we don’t want him near because of our sin. But Jesus doesn’t go anywhere! Thank you Jesus for showing us our sin and reminding us of your presence and activity in our lives!!
Have a great day my friends!!
