We all have questions. Even the wisest have questions. We also have doubts. I know I do. It’s easy to say that I believe in something but when it’s put to the test? That’s when the truth comes out! All humans face doubt. John the Baptist was a man that was foretold about. God had a plan for him many years before he was even born. The Spirit of God was with him from birth and his purpose in life was to announce the coming of the Messiah. Jesus. And he did just that! He was unwavering in his mission. But he was human. He was arrested and put into prison. They weren’t nice like the prisons today. He was awaiting his death. When your feet are put to the flames so to speak, the mind begins to go into hyper speed and you start to question and doubt. In those times we need reassurance. John was no different. We learn in Matthew 11:1-12 that John had begun to doubt. So he sent some of his followers to find out if Jesus really was the messiah. Now Jesus could have been harsh and said that John had lost his faith and forgot who he was. But that’s not what happened. Jesus gently reassured him and spoke very highly of him.
I don’t know if John was questioning himself and whether he had announced the wrong man or what but I know I wouldn’t have done any better under his circumstances!! In my life, my feet have been put to the flame and I have had questions and doubts! But where do we go to find reassurance? John went to the source! Jesus. We have God’s word to go to. Maybe we need to ask a friend to help us like John did. We need to remind each other that Jesus is still with us. That he will come again just as he promised. All of us will experience hardship on this earth. All of us will doubt. But we have a Savior that loves us and will never leave us!! Thank you Emanuel (God with us) for loving us even when we question and doubt! Help us to remember that you are the Messiah and that nothing will stop you from coming on that Day!!
Have a great day!!
