When I was little, I would wait with eager anticipation for my Dad to ask me to go to work with him. I had no idea what I was doing, but I wanted to be with him. I would mimic his every move and watch everything he was doing so I could copy it. There were things I couldn’t do because a 5 year old cannot do what a 40 year old can, but I would try. I loved to hear him say: “Good job Son!”
When we are called by God to follow Jesus, it is very much like me following Dad. First Peter 1:15-16 says: For just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy because I am holy.” What a privilege to be called by Jesus to follow him. How do we live up to His holiness? Well, it’s like me when I was little. I watched every move my Dad made and tried to copy it. We should do the same. We can find out about Jesus in the Bible. We won’t be holy like He is holy because of our limitations. However, we need to be always working towards the goal of our lives being shaped into the likeness of Jesus our Savior. Like His disciples who were far from holy when Jesus first called them, but gave their lives for Him as they matured, so must we, out of our appreciation of Him, work towards that same maturity! Do not get discouraged though as you strive towards that goal. Remember that He who has called us, loves us, and gave His life for us! One day we will hear him say: “Well done my child.” Oh what a day that will be!!
Thank you Father in heaven for being patient with us as we mimic you with our imperfect lives! Help us in our efforts to be holy like you are holy!
Have a blessed day my friends!!
