Do you know anyone who has stopped going to church because they have had a bad experience at one? I know I do. Several folks actually. It’s sad to me. Bickering among believers is probably one of the biggest turn offs causing people to leave church. Maybe your one of those people I’m talking about. I want to clear the air about something here. God’s people are not supposed to be bickering. Yes we are human and yes we make mistakes and knowing that fact should be kept in mind but also, it is very clear in God’s word how believers are to treat one another. 1John 3:16 says: This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
Does this mean we are to die? Well, maybe, but I think it’s even more than that. I think it’s putting Christ first, others second, and ourselves last. I understand holding to the truth of scripture as a reason to “stand your ground” but I also know that it can lead to nitpicking. And should the church split over what color to paint the building or what flowers to plant around it? Absolutely not!! How can we as believers expect to express the love of God to others, if when they come to the place of worship and instead of seeing us hugging and singing together they find us fighting over some trivial thing that doesn’t matter at all? They have enough of that in their life already! We all do! Listen my brothers and sisters in Christ: We need to die to ourselves and put aside our pride and personal agendas and get back to living as our Lord intended for us to live. We need to love each other so that others can see what real love looks like. Okay, I’ll stop ranting now. Dear Father, thank you for sending Jesus here to show us the better way to live and love. Help us to put that into practice in our lives!
Be kind! Have a blessed day!!
