Freedom to be free

Does anyone remember the tv show called candid camera? They would do these experiments and film people to get their reaction then tell them later “ smile, your on candid camera!” One of the experiments was giving out one hundred dollar bills to random people on the street. Out of all the people they tried to give the money to, only one actually took it. Most of us feel the need to earn what we get. Free stuff always seems like it comes with a “catch”. I think that mindset is what makes being a follower of Christ so difficult. People have been trying to earn their way to heaven by following rules. It cannot be done! Even if we follow God’s perfect law, we can never follow it perfectly enough for all of our life to gain access to God or heaven. Only Jesus could do that. He did do that. The only portal to Heaven is Christ. He made it possible through His death and resurrection and all we need to do is believe that and then follow Him. Why then do we feel the need to bog ourselves down with all these regulations? Galatians 5:1 says: it is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm ,then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
My dear friends, if we become slaves to following the law, then Jesus went through all that for nothing! He doesn’t want us to live as slaves but as free people. Are we to keep on sinning? No, not intentionally, but instead of trying to follow a bunch of rules with the mindset that we must or we will perish, we should try to be Christlike out of appreciation for all He has done for us. It should be a joy to do good instead of evil because it is pleasing to God, and that is freedom! Think of it this way: Today, I am free to do all that God would be pleased for me to do. Doesn’t that sound better than: Today, I am bound to follow the law or tonight I will be burdened with guilt? It sounds better to me!! Thank you Jesus for giving us the freedom to live for you!!

Love y’all. Have a great day!
