Freedom is for serving others

I like to reminisce about life when I was a kid. I was raised on a livestock farm and started going out to work with my Dad at a very young age. One of the things I remember is going to help our neighbors and them coming to help us. Whenever there was a big task that needed done, that’s just what we did. I’ve watched the agriculture community grow into something different today. It’s more of an every man for himself kind of life now. Our modern world tells us to do whatever it takes to succeed. To do whatever makes us happy. I’m not sure that’s the better way. It is good to serve others. Galatians 5:13 says: You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. Did not use your freedom to indulge in the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
It’s so easy to get caught up in serving ourselves. We work hard and so we tell ourselves we deserve this or that so we buy it or we deserve to be happy so we leave our spouse for another, or we want something so bad that we borrow our way into debt to have it and on and on it goes. Meanwhile there are people living all around us who need help. We will say “ isn’t it sad about so and so” but do nothing to help them. We have given up our love for others to love ourselves and in reality we don’t even do that! Serving others is so much better! It’s good to love others and to help each other. Then we are truly free! Father in Heaven, forgive us for using our freedom for selfish things instead of for others. Help us to break these chains of serving self and teach us to live others!!

God bless you all
