I had the privilege of growing up in a small rural community. We all knew each other to some extent. Many mornings I would tag along with my Dad to the coffee shop where many of the local men would gather. These men, without knowing it , were my examples of what a man should be. Many of them are gone now and I myself am aging. Now and then I have conversation with the few that are left. The other day I was visiting with one who I hadn’t seen in many years. He mentioned his age and how he wasn’t gonna be around much longer he figured. Then he said something that broke my heart. He looked me right in the eye and said: I wonder what’s next? Why does this break my heart? Because I grew up going to church with this man!! He’s not alone. Many people go to church all their lives and when the end draws near they wonder. My friends, there shouldn’t be a question! I don’t know where the disconnect is. Is it that the church is failing to teach of heaven and hell? Are we, as Christians, not telling the people about what Jesus has done so that we can be sure of heaven? Maybe some just go through life just closing the eyes of their hearts to the gospel of Christ. I don’t know about you, but I want to be sure of what’s next! 1 Peter 1:3-6 tells us that we have a living hope. Jesus died. Jesus also came back to life. He is alive! He is in heaven now keeping our inheritance for us. This inheritance can never spoil or fade. He is that living hope!! This is what’s next!! Are you questioning what’s next in your life? If you put your trust and hope in Jesus and his death and resurrection, and follow his example of what a person should be, you never have to question what’s next! In fact we can look forward to it!!
Thank you Jesus for giving us a reason to hope. Not a hope that is temporary but rather a hope that is eternal!!
Have a great day y’all
