I can say: I am going to work, or I am going to the store, or I am going to church. I don’t know if I can say “I am” doing anything tomorrow because what if I die? A hundred years ago I couldn’t say “ I am” doing anything because I didn’t exist yet. There is only one human ever to exist that at any point in all of history and at any point in the future and can even say now: I am. That is Jesus. He referred to himself as “ I am” in seven different statements and I won’t go into all that but that he called himself that always intrigued me. For along time I was puzzled by it to be honest. I am now comforted by it. You see, God is often thought of as a far off distant creature that looks down on us from the sky indifferent to all that we experience here. A demanding rule maker ready to dam us to hell if we make a mistake. Not true. He loves us so much that he himself became human and came here. He experienced pain and loss and temptation. He suffered. For us. He was here before the earth was formed and he is still here and will always be. “ I am”. He can say that any time. Only God can say that. Jesus is “I am”. Therefore he is God and not a far off, uncaring god but Emanuel. Emanuel means “God with us”. Why am I telling you this? Because having God with me in this life, one who has experienced my troubles, one who was willing to give up heaven and come here to die for me, one who could take his life back up again, one who always is; that’s the only God for me. The great I am!! Thank you Lord for always being. Thank you for your great love and forgiveness!
Love y’all ! Have a good day
