Identity

I’m a guy. I get up in the morning and put on my pants, shirt and hat and head out for whatever the days brings. It’s easy. My wife on the other hand has much more to do to get ready. She will not be seen in her natural state in public. I get to see her all natural though and she is beautiful!! Identity. It’s how we are seen by others and also how we see ourselves. Is our view and others view really accurate? If I went out without my hat people would wonder what’s up because I don’t do that. If my wife went out without makeup people wouldn’t know what to think. Neither of us are really being seen in our true state. We don’t see ourselves in a true state either. She thinks she needs the stuff and I think I need my hat. God however sees us as we truly are. He sees what’s inside as well. Nothing can hide the “ugly” from God. Our sin is fully exposed to him. No hat, no makeup, just the raw self we are. Sinners. Jesus came and took that sin on the cross. If we accept the free gift of salvation that he bought for us, then we are covered by his blood. Before, he sees sinners. But after, listen to what he says about us: 1Peter says we are chosen, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession. 2Corinthians 5 says we are righteous. John 3:16 says we are loved. John 8 says we are free. John 15 says we are his family. Romans 3 says we are justified. John 15 says we are his friend!!
Our identity changes when Jesus comes into our lives!! Oh yes we can still see the ugliness inside ourselves but that is not what God sees! He sees his child who he loves! That is us! That is the true us. That is who we are in Christ! Thank you Jesus for your gift! Thank you for making us new!
Have a really good day!
