How much thought do you put into giving gifts? It’s that time of year again. Some time after Jesus was born, wise men brought him gifts. One of these gifts was called frankincense. Frankincense was a sap. Men would take a knife and pierce into the skin of a Boswellia sacra tree and sap would run out. This first sap would run and take out the impurities and then set up. Then they would pierce through that and pure sap would run out and set up. They would take this hardened pure sap and crush it to pieces and then they had frankincense. Frankincense has in recent years been helpful in resetting dna that has been disrupted and caused certain kinds of cancer. It was also used as a healing agent in those days as well as being burned as incense in the temple. Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him and by his wounds we are healed. This was Jesus. Just like the sacra tree is pierced and crushed to bring healing, so it was for our Savior. He was pierced and crushed and now has become the one who heals us!! Do you think that the wise men knew this when they gave the frankincense to Jesus? I don’t know? I know that God knew. How special is it that God is still showing himself to us all these years later!! Thank you Jesus for coming here. For being willing to be pierced and crushed for our sake. To you be the glory not just during the Christmas season but all year long!!
