Light and reflection

Dad and I would work late in the field sometimes. Now and then our equipment would break down and my job as a young boy was to hold the flash light in just the right spot so Dad could see what he needed to do. Flashlights work by having a source of light (battery powered bulb) and behind it is a cone shaped reflector that projects that light from the source forward. The reflector by itself cannot put off any light at all. It has to have the light. With the light though, the reflector can project that light out to wherever it is pointed and dispels the darkness, making everything visible.
In the book of John in the Bible, Jesus is referred to as the light of the world. So let’s consider him the light source. It also talks about a witness to the light who’s name is John. It tells us that John was not the light but testifies about the light. Later in John 5:35 Jesus says that John is a lamp that burns and gives light. A lamp in those days was much like our flashlight. So Jesus was the light source and John was the reflector. That is what we are today! We live in a world of darkness and many are wandering around in need of light! How can they ever hope to see if light isn’t brought to them? Those who believe in Jesus as Savior, have the light in them just like a flashlight, and our hearts are the reflectors that shine His light to the world around us!! How cool is that!! My dear believing friends, let’s shine bright the love of Jesus to those around us who need light! Thank you Jesus for the light that came to me from the reflective heart of my parents. Help me and my friends have that same heart for you and others!!

Let His light shine today!!
