When I would disobey my Father as a child and would see that look of disappointment on his face, I can’t even explain that feeling. It was like we were miles apart and in the moment, it seemed too far to return. On the other hand, when I would obey Dad, the gleam in his eye was like no other feeling on earth!! That’s what I like to refer to as an “ atta boy” moment! Neither of these two moments had any bearing at all on whether my Dad loved me or not. He loved me either way. It had to do with whether I loved him! Jesus loves you. It’s unconditional. I want you to KNOW that. You are loved, and even when you feel miles apart from Jesus our Savior, He is right there. It’s us that goes, not him. It’s not a question of His love, but ours! John 14:15 says: If you love me, keep my commands.
Jesus said those words. No fancy theological thing happening here. Simple concept. If we love him, then we will be obedient. Will we fail? Yep. Will that change His love towards us? Nope! Just like our relationships here on planet earth, we certainly need to make amends when we’ve done wrong, by talking to Him. Forgiveness is certain. He assured that when He went to the cross and then was resurrected. His love is true!! What a comfort that is! And what a feeling it is when we have an “ atta boy” moment with Jesus! There is no fear in obedience! Just love!
Thank you Father for your patience and mercy and grace! We don’t deserve it and can’t earn it, but humbly except it. Help us to love you and show it through our obedience each moment of every day!!
Love ya friends!
