I envy people who can start a project, then before it is finished they leave it for a time and then come back to it later. It’s very difficult for me to start something and then be interrupted to the point that I have to leave it. I want to get back to it right away! It drives me nuts until I do! I know I know. It’s not a long drive to me being nuts. I just like to finish what I start. We all have goals in life and most of not all of us have had our plans changed by unforeseen circumstances. Maybe an injury or death of a loved one or illness or job change you didn’t expect. Sometimes you just don’t get back to where you were. You know, that comfortable place where everything was going okay. It’s okay. Paul was a man who had a purpose and he knows full well about interruptions. He was shipwrecked, tortured, put in prison, and sometimes delayed by God himself from going where he wanted to go. You know why? He wasn’t in command of his own life. He had given the command of his life to Jesus. Jesus was now the one who started working in Paul’s life. Jesus began taking this hard soul who killed and imprisoned followers of Jesus, to a kindhearted believer who gave his life, literally, to his Savior. Paul tells us In Philippians 1:4-6 that when we have partnered with the gospel, in other words when we have believed and given Jesus command of our life, Jesus then begins a work in us. Verse 6 says: being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Jesus will finish what he starts in you and me. He will. Life may seem to have delays and yes some of them are painful. When we are in the painful times Jesus is there with us. He is working in us to make us stronger. He is preparing us for his kingdom which is eternal. Right now we are on a journey that never ends, but the painful part will soon end. Then we will be with Jesus in person! All of this crazy interrupted, delayed, ever changing mess will cease and a new thing will begin that our minds cannot possibly fathom!
Thank you my Lord and my God, Jesus Christ, for starting a work in me and my brothers and sisters that will be finished!!
Have a blessed day
