Have you ever been sitting with someone and having a conversation and a little while into it you realize they are miles away? Something is weighing on their mind and it’s hard for them to even have a conversation. I’ve been there. On both sides!! I’ve been the one miles away to my dismay. Most if not all of us have either the past or the future on our minds. What about now? Right now?
Jesus shed a little light on this subject. In Matthew 6:31-34 he was talking about worrying about what we will eat or drink or wear. He said: Therefore do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Again in John 4: 35&36 he says: Don’t you have a saying, “ It’s still four months until harvest”? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields. They are ripe for harvest!
What do these verses mean? I’m going to give you the Andy version. Scary right? We spend so much time on the “ what ifs” and we miss what needs to be dealt with right now! Jesus wants, desires, and deserves our undivided attention. Every minute, every hour, one day at a time. That’s how he can love people through us. If we are focused on Jesus and his word and the people we are with, then he can make us aware of the needs of others. Their spiritual, emotional, and physical needs and if we are paying attention we can share the love of Jesus with them in many ways. We are not guaranteed tomorrow so why do we spend so much time thinking about that when we can hardly handle what’s happening right now? Thinking about tomorrow can lead to worry and thinking about the past can cause regret and Jesus doesn’t want us to do either of those things. Let’s just be with Jesus in the moment and trust him with our future and our past!! Maybe then we will see how much he is doing in our lives and cause us to worship him without distraction!!
Thank you Lord Jesus for having our past and future in your hands and help us to enjoy just being with you every moment!
May love, joy and peace be with you!
