Walk it

There was a man who traveled all over the world giving speeches about the wonders of America’s Grand Canyon. With his words he could almost take you there. One day after one of his compelling talks, one of his listeners approached him and told him how fortunate he was to have seen such a beautiful place! His reply was shocking. He told the man he had never been there, but had only read about it and seen pictures. The man replied: Then how can you be sure it is just as you described it to be?

That was a good question. When I think about the word faith it reminds me of the man giving speeches. We can say we have faith. We can say we believe. Does saying we have faith in something really change anything? James 2:17 says: In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

Believing in Jesus or faith in Jesus is our only way to be saved and to see heaven. When the Bible talks about believing, it’s not just saying to believe it in our minds. James went on in verse 19 to tell us that even the demons believed. The faith and or belief must be followed up with action. If we talk the talk, then we should walk the walk. Let’s use a stairway as an example. We can believe it’s there. We can have faith that it leads up to another level, but if we don’t climb the stairs we will never get to the next level. Trusting in Christ as our Savior is an active belief. We should climb to the next level and the next. Not that the climbing saves us. Jesus has already done that. The climb or the action is for others. If nothing in us changes and we look just as the rest of the world does, then how can we expect those around us to believe? When we follow Jesus and act out our faith by making the hard changes or loving those that are hard to love or being kind to the unkind and so on, then God is seen and glorified as He should be! Faith by itself is just a speech but faith lived out can change the world around us!!

Dear Jesus, help us not to be people of empty words. Help us to live out our faith, to walk the walk, and make us more like you!!

Have a blessed day!
