Think

Have you ever thought about how much you think? Funny question right? I wonder how much less thinking we do in this generation compared to those who lived without television, computers and smartphones and such. When I read C.S. Lewis and other guys like him, I am ashamed at how little I know about the English language. I need a dictionary with me when I read his stuff! Why? Because our generation has lost the discipline of thinking. We watch instead of reading. We listen instead of studying. It’s evident when we speak!! Me included! Jesus was able to battle temptation when he was in the wilderness and Satan came to lure him to sin. Every time he would tempt him Jesus would answer with God’s word. David knew this secret. He wrote in Psalm 119 that hiding God’s word in our hearts helps us against sinning! We can’t just read words on a page but we have to engage with these words by committing them to our minds and hearts. We have to think!! Then when the hour of trouble comes, we will be prepared to give an answer to our tempter. Also, if we think deeply about God’s word, we can also be better prepared to tell about the goodness of God and how he gave his Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice for our sin! We must start using the mind that God gave us for more than mindless entertainment but rather to fill ourselves with all things Godly!

Thank you for your word dear Lord, and for our brains. Help us to use both daily!!

Have a good day!!
