Salty

Anyone who knows me understands that I really like bacon. You can wrap almost anything in bacon and I’ll eat it. It’s salty goodness! Salt is considered bad today but back in Jesus’ day it was good. It was the main way to preserve meats. It also caused thirst. In Mathew 5 Jesus called his disciples the salt of the earth. As Jesus’ followers we are to be like salt. We are to bring God’s flavor and preservation to the earth. As we live out our faith, it should also be evident that because of Christ, we are free. Free from sin and the shame that comes with it. We are forgiven. When the world sees us living this way, like salt, it should cause them to thirst for what we have. What we have is the living water that is Christ Jesus! If our lives are no different than those around us then how can we expect anything in our world to change? It will continue to decay! The world needs salt. The world needs to be thirsty for the Living Water!! Just like bacon can make a brussel sprout taste better, if we wrap ourselves in God’s word, we can bring his good flavor to the earth !!
