Why do you think people enjoy seeing others fail? Don’t be to quick to judge! We’ve all been there, done that! Whether it’s someone we don’t like “getting what they deserve “ or maybe we just don’t know them that well but they failed in a way that everyone knows about it. The fact that we would enjoy that in any way is sinful. In John 7&8 we read about a woman caught in adultery. The religious leaders took her, after catching her in the act, to Jesus. They made her stand in front of a crowd as they accused her in front of Jesus. As they accused her he bent down and wrote in the dirt with his finger. What they wanted was for Jesus to tell them to stone her. That’s not what he did. He stood up and told them “let anyone of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone. “ Then he bent over and continued writing in the dirt. What do you think he was writing? It doesn’t say, but I’ve always thought he was writing their sins in the dirt. They one by one turned and walked away. Then in the way that Jesus did, with love, said to the woman “where are your accusers?”
Maybe it’s because when we see other peoples sin, we don’t have to look at ours. That doesn’t change the fact that we do. We do have sin. God doesn’t make a list of good sins and bad ones. It’s all sin. It’s all bad. And we all do. Is someone in your life, in your town, being drug out into the crowd to be accused? Who will pick up the first stone? Will it be me? No, I can’t because I’ve sinned. Will it be you? What if we follow the example of Jesus, and just love people? Wouldn’t life be better? Wouldn’t we be better?
Father, I pray that you will forgive us for being sinful and always looking at someone else’s sin instead of our own! Help us to do better!
Let’s love each other today and leave the sin of others to God. That’s his business not ours!
