Forgive and forget

When someone hurts you or wrongs you in some way, how long does it take to forget it? When you forgive them, is it then that you forget? I’ll be honest, I have forgiven people and I hope that they forgive me too, but I can’t seem to forget. I may for awhile, but then something will remind me. Even though I no longer hold anything against them I just can’t seem to forget. Does that mean I haven’t really forgiven them? I don’t think so. I think the problem is that I’m human. I’m not perfect. If I was perfect, I could choose to forget and poof! It would be gone. Nothing could make me remember it! How awesome would it be if we could forgive and forget? There’s one human that can. And he does! Jesus! Him being human but also God, he is also perfect. He gave his life for us taking all of our sins into the grave, and that’s where he left them. Hebrews 10:17 says that he remembers our sins no more. Can you imagine? Complete forgiveness with no chart or tally! No distant memory to be recalled. He just decided that if we trust him to forgive us then he would. he would forgive and forget because he can!! If this doesn’t excite us and call our hearts to worship then maybe we need to look into the matter a little deeper! I’m gonna throw us all under the bus. We are awful! We don’t deserve this kind of forgiveness. But it’s ours to have. No cost. And eternal life to boot! Let’s join together in worship of the God who forgives and remembers no more! Thank you Jesus for your complete forgiveness! Only you are worthy of our praise!
