Let’s party!!

There was a boy from a small town and he was having a birthday party. As it happened, there was also another boy in the same town of the same age having a party as well. The second boy was a very popular boy and invited every kid in his class to his party. The first boy only had a couple friends and invited both of them. In the day of the party, the first boy waited patiently for his best friends to show up. All he wanted was to share the day with them. The second boy was so consumed with what he would get that he hardly noticed who was there at his party. The two friends of the first boy had to make a decision. Do we go to the big party where everyone will be? Or go to our friends party and risk our popularity?
Can you relate to anyone in this story? In the Bible, in Luke 14:16-25 Jesus tells a parable about a man who was having a banquet. He invited guests to come and dine with him. After the banquet was prepared he send word out that it was time to come. But all of them had excuses not to come. They found better things to do. The man was upset so he told the messenger to go out and invite people from the street, the sick, the lame, the blind and beggars to come and he filled his house with them. Did you know you were invited to this banquet? Jesus was talking about a feast with him! A feast that will actually happen. He has invited us to it but how many will come? You see, like the first boy, he just wants to be with you, but going to Jesus’ party could risk your popularity. He requires that first, you prepare to be in his presence by following him and his ways. His ways are different from the “popular” ways of this world! So we have the invitation and he wants us to come but we all have a choice to make.
The first boy only had one of his two friends show up to the party. They had a great time together and his friend never regretted going. The other friend went to the other party and ended up having a miserable time.
Im not going to the world’s party. I’m going to Jesus’ party. I will go as one of the sick, blind, lame beggars into heaven to join others like me at God’s table. I won’t be deserving of being there, but I know that he will smile and say : welcome my guest. We will have a grand time together and I won’t regret choosing his party or the pain along the way to get there. Will you join us? Your invited!!
Dear Jesus, thank you for inviting us to your house. Thank you for going to the cross in our place. Thank you for being you!! Amen
