Just sing!!

Yesterday a friend sent me a video of a group of people singing a praise song to the Lord. They were outside, one man with a guitar and a man leading but really the people didn’t need to be led. They were singing their hearts out. By observation I would assume many of them were poor and likely don’t enjoy the freedoms we do here in America, yet they sing with all of the energy they have in them and not to be noticed or recognized. Just because they wanted to. Tears came to my eyes as I listened. I listened to it several times and once with my eyes closed so I could really absorb it. It got me to thinking. Why haven’t I heard this kind of praise from believers here? Oh yes we sing. But somehow it’s different. Is it because we are worried about what the people next to us are going to think? Is it because we don’t have confidence in our ability to sing? God doesn’t require us to be good at singing! Maybe it’s because we don’t fully understand what God does for us, and did for us when he gave his only Son, Jesus, to die for us so we could be saved. Maybe it’s because we have too much and don’t realize how we got it. Yes we work but how did we get the ability to do that work? Can you keep that strength? What if it was taken away? Would we become bitter? Or would we sing?
Most of these questions I’m asking myself! In Revelation 4&5 the Bible describes what goes on around God and his throne day and night. There are creatures singing holy holy holy is the Lord God Almighty who was and is and is to come. All day and all night they sing. And 24 elders fall on their knees and worship. Are you like me, and you tell yourself, when I get there I’ll do that too? King David and others wrote many songs and they sang and danced before the Lord whenever they recognized God’s hand at work in their lives. I don’t do that! Maybe I should. If those in heaven are singing and those that came before us were singing and many here on earth right now are singing, and all of these to a wonderful God who has given us our very life, then why am I not singing? He deserves to hear my voice! And when our voices of praise join together, it doesn’t matter how talented or not we are, because between here and his throne our weak, human, sinful, voices become a beautiful sound to his ears!! Let’s sing!!
God of all,may our voices join together to sing of your holiness and give you the praise you so richly deserve!!
