My Mom used to say: Don’t pray for patience unless your ready to receive them. God will surely give them to you but not like you think!
Her statement is correct. God is not a genie in a bottle waiting to hand us our requests! For example, let’s say I do pray for patience. When He answers me, does He just give them to me? Like one second I have no patience and now that I prayed, POOF, now I’m patient? No. Instead, He will allow some adversity to come along and develop patience in me and then the patience will be a lasting virtue. So should we pray a prayer like that? I say yes! For too long I’ve prayed the same old prayers. Bless this meal or be with so and so and their problem or blah blah blah. What about asking for real change to happen? What about praying like David who was so honest and real with God. He prayed expecting to get what he asked for and was ready to get it however God gave it. Even when it meant some hard times were involved. Maybe it’s time to stop with the selfish mundane prayers and start really talking to God and asking for the dangerous stuff and then being willing for the way God will change our lives!! That is where our empty words turn into trusting in the God who loves more than we could even imagine! Are you ready for a life changing time? I am. Let’s start praying!! God, I’m sorry for my stagnant empty prayers. I’m sorry for avoiding asking for things that might require me to change! Help us all to start talking to you and praying to you trusting that you will do a good work in us even if it hurts!
If we put callouses on our knees God will remove the callouses from our hearts!
