I know I’ve shared this before but stick with me on this because it has a different twist than before. On November 11,1976 my families house and all we had burned to the ground. The events that happened in the week following were nothing short of Gods work through our local people. First, a man got us a house to move into the very next day. Then the entire community got together and brought us stuff that they thought we might need. The result; we had more after the fire than we did before!! In Luke 9 Jesus was preaching to a crowd of folks, around five thousand, and towards the end of the day they were getting hungry. Jesus’ disciples asked Jesus to let them go to town for food. Listen to what Jesus told them: You feed them. I can only imagine the panic and frustration that came over them. In their mind they were like: We can’t afford that! How does he expect us to do that? All we have is a couple fish and a bit of bread!!
When you think about this, it’s like us today. When we see someone in need of some kind we say to ourselves: I’ll ask Jesus to do it. In others words I’ll pray about it. Then we go on our way. The disciples did just that. They asked Jesus to feed the people because they didn’t see a way. Jesus then showed them that with what little they did have , he could multiply it to not only be enough but to have leftovers! We are the hands and feet of Jesus. When we see a need, yes pray about it, but don’t stop there! Do something! When you see that woman at the checkout that doesn’t have enough money to cover what she needs, cover it. God can take that little you have and multiply it. When someone loses a loved one and they are hurting, don’t just pray for them but come along side them and share in their grief. Jesus, when he walked the earth just simply gave of himself and his time and his energy to love people. Jesus lives in us who believe. He gave us his Spirit to lead and guide us and he gave us his word as a how to manual. If we study the manual and listen to the Spirit, then we have all we need to take a faith risk and love people not just with our “I’ll be praying for ya” but actually going to them and loving them and giving them what they need. By the way this is what people did when our house burned. Yes they prayed and that was monumental. But then they took a risk and did the work that Jesus asked them to do. I am thankful to them and to God for not only the things that they gave us but even more that because they were willing to do it, my family knew that we were not alone in our loss. That’s huge my friends!
Jesus, we know that if you tell us to feed people you will provide the bread and the fish. Help us to overcome our fear and be your hands and feet!
Much love y’all . Pass it on
