Me me me

It would be interesting to know how many waking moments we spend in our thought life thinking about ourselves. Thinking about my work, my feelings, what it would take to make me happy. Me me me. Not that thinking about ourselves is all bad, but is it really healthy to be all consumed with self? We live in a me generation. Find your own path. Make your own way. Find happiness within yourself. You do you. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps. There’s no end to sayings geared towards making life all about self. The truth is, we were not created for self. Self is lonely. Self distances us from our relationships, and robs us of the joy of companionship. Philippians 2:3&4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, consider others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.
Wow! Paul wrote these words to the church in Philippi. Often he wrote letters to the people in the churches he had established while in prison. If I was in prison, would I be thinking about others enough to write to them or about me? Well I guess it depends on the teaching I was following. Paul followed Jesus , who selflessly came here from heaven to serve mankind by giving his life for all of us. That’s not me thinking. How would our lives look if we invested more of our thought life, our prayer life, our life, living to serve others rather than ourselves? Did you know that most arguments continue due to the fact that both people are only looking at their own point of view with no consideration for the other persons thoughts or feelings? This will sound weird coming from me because I’m a talker, but what if we not just heard but listened to others and talked less? What if we sacrificed our time to give it to someone else? I think it would ease our loneliness, anxiety and living for others would actually prove to make our own lives more fulfilling and meaningful!! Following in the footsteps of the one who created us seems like a better plan than following the “me” plan!
Help us to follow you Jesus and put others above ourselves.

Love y’all
