When I was growing up, saturdays were for two things; cleaning out the hog barns and cutting wood. When those two things were accomplished then I could go do whatever I wanted. Within reason. I would be working with my Dad and the whole time dreaming up what I was going to do when I was finished with my work. Usually what I ended up doing wasn’t near as good as I thought it would be. Looking back, the best part of my saturdays were working with my Dad. I didn’t see it then because my mind was always looking to be somewhere else. Doing something that I thought would satisfy me more. It never did. Being with my Father was the best thing. What do you spend your thoughts on? Is it your next camping trip or vacation? Is it retirement? Is it buying something that you think will satisfy you? Don’t we all think about these things? It’s no secret that I claim to follow Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul wrote in Colossians 3: 1-2: Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
What if we spend all our thought time on ourselves and what we want to do, and we miss out on the real joy we can have right now? Our Heavenly Father is here with us right now. No matter what we are doing he is with us. He wants us to enjoy his company. At work or at play he wants to be the best part of our day. He wants us to talk with him and share our joys and pains with him! Yes, looking forward to being with him in heaven is good but don’t forget he is with you right now!! We get so wrapped up in what’s next that we lose the joy of the moment we are in and who we are with in that moment! My dear friends, let’s not grow old and look back and think wow, I missed out on all that time I could have spent with the Lord. Instead, let’s set our minds on Him and enjoy his company every moment of every day!!
Thank you Emanuel! This means God with us. You are with us and so often we forget. Help us to set our hearts on you and not the things of this earth that never satisfy us for long.
Love y’all. Have a blessed day
